Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Eureka Care Services Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with UK Government targets and the requirements of PPN 06/21.

As a small domiciliary care provider, we recognise that our environmental impact is primarily associated with staff travel, energy consumption and office operations. Whilst our operational footprint is relatively small, we are committed to taking practical and proportionate steps to reduce emissions across our business activities.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions Reporting Methodology

The carbon emissions detailed within this report have been calculated using:

• UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting
• DEFRA environmental reporting guidance
• Mileage and operational data held by Eureka Care Services Limited
• Utility usage estimates from office operations
• Staff travel and commuting estimates based on current workforce patterns

The reporting boundary includes emissions associated with operational delivery within the UK.

As a small provider, some data currently relies upon reasonable estimates and extrapolation from available operational information. We will continue improving the accuracy and detail of emissions reporting each year.

Current Environmental Management Measures

Eureka Care Services Limited already undertakes a number of practical measures to minimise environmental impact and reduce unnecessary emissions.

Localised Care Delivery Model

We recruit staff from the communities in which we deliver services and allocate care packages geographically wherever possible. This reduces:

• overall travel mileage;
• travel time between calls;
• fuel consumption; and
• vehicle emissions.

Our selected contract areas are either existing delivery areas or adjacent locations where staff already live and work.

Digital Working Practices

We minimise paper usage through:
• electronic care records;
• digital rotas and scheduling;
• electronic timesheets;
• secure email communication; and
• digital training and policies where possible.

Remote Meetings and Training

Where appropriate, staff meetings, supervisions and training sessions are completed remotely using Microsoft Teams or telephone conferencing to reduce unnecessary travel.

Efficient Route Planning

Care coordinators plan schedules to reduce travel distances between visits and avoid unnecessary journeys.

Energy Efficiency

Within our office environment, we promote:
• switching off lights and equipment when not in use;
• responsible heating usage;
• reduced printing; and
• energy-efficient equipment replacement where practical.

Waste Reduction and Recycling

We encourage responsible disposal of waste and recycling of:
• paper;
• cardboard;
• plastics; and
• printer cartridges

Sustainable Procurement

Where possible, we aim to source:
• local suppliers;
• environmentally responsible products;
• rechargeable or reusable items; and
• electronic documentation instead of paper copies

Carbon Reduction Objectives

Eureka Care Services Limited has committed to reducing carbon emissions through realistic and achievable measures appropriate to the size and nature of the organisation.

Planned Carbon Reduction Measures

Over the next five years we intend to:

Travel and Transport:

• Continue allocating care calls geographically to reduce mileage.
• Increase the use of remote meetings and virtual training.
• Encourage car sharing where appropriate.
• Explore transitioning towards lower-emission or hybrid vehicles as the organisation grows.
• Promote efficient driving practices amongst staff.

Digital and Paper Reduction
• Further reduce printed documentation.
• Increase the use of digital forms and electronic signatures.
• Reduce paper storage and paper-based processes.

Energy Usage
• Review office energy consumption annually.
• Replace equipment with energy-efficient alternatives when required.
• Encourage responsible energy use across all staff.

Staff Awareness
• Include environmental awareness within staff induction and ongoing communication.
• Encourage environmentally responsible working practices.

Procurement
• Continue using local suppliers where practical.
• Consider sustainability when purchasing equipment and consumables.

203540% reduction in total emissions
204060% reduction in total emissions

We recognise that transport-related emissions form the largest proportion of our operational footprint and that future reductions will rely heavily upon improvements in vehicle technology, route optimisation and more sustainable travel arrangements.
